February 2nd, Friday – UISG is set to welcome a professional mental health speaker to address issues like stress, depression, and anxiety among students. The event, organized by the school administration, aims to create awareness about mental health and equip students with valuable tools and coping mechanisms to overcome these challenges.

During the event, the mental health speaker Mr. Du delivered a powerful message about mental well-being and share practical strategies for coping with stress and anxiety. The talk was held in the admin hall after lunch from 13:50 to 14:25, specifically for Secondary students. Y7-Y9 students listened to the talk on Monday (Jan 29) while Y10-Y12 students did on Thursday (Feb 1).

With the rise of academic pressures, college applications, and personal growth, many students might find themselves grappling with stress-related issues. With the help of the Speaker, UISG hopes to provide a safer and a more supportive environment for students by teaching different coping mechanisms and when they should use them.

The students were given a piece of paper to write down their thoughts and rate their stress and anxiety levels during the talk. The purpose of this exercise is to encourage self-reflection and promote awareness among students so that they become aware of their mental state and can find better ways to manage it. The administration encourages students to actively engage in the event by taking notes (as it’s optional), listening carefully, and asking thoughtful and meaningful questions.

The mental health speaker’s visit is seen as very important and necessary, as mental health issues affect individuals of all ages and backgrounds. By addressing these topics as a school, UISG is taking a proactive approach to ensure the well-being of all students.

In conclusion, the information shared during the session will be valuable not only for the students attending but also for the wider school community, as mental health can affect everyone at some point in their lives.
